In 1982, a company by the name of STARLING FORWARDERS (PVT) LIMITED was incorporated by our present Managing Director Mr Priyanath Peiris in order to cater to the growing market of the Clearing and Forwarding industry.
By the end of the 1980’s, we had a market share of over 30 per cent of the clearing and forwarding business in Sri Lanka, handling most of the project cargo coming into Sri Lanka and trans-shipped via the Port of Colombo to the Indian Sub-continent.
With the diversification of the Company into the NVOCC Operations, and with a view of having more emphasis on shipping activities, in 1993 the Board of Directors of Starling Forwarders (Pvt) Ltd., decided to change its name to MODERN SHIPPING (PVT) LIMITED.
MODERN SHIPPING (PVT) LIMITED has been one of the leading customs house clearing and forwarding agents who is also involved in NVOCC activities, and have grown to a stage where it is geared to handle any aspect in the shipping industry. One of the main projects that we handled was the Kelanitissa Combined Cycle Power Plant Project, where we represented M/s Alstom, France as their Agents in Sri Lanka.
